Through the law, humanity comes to recognize its sinful nature. The law was given to reveal human sin and to highlight our need for redemption. Consequently, those who live by the law often find themselves trapped in anxiety and guilt. They not only struggle to meet the law's demands themselves, but also tend to judge and criticize others by those same unattainable standards.
In contrast, those who follow the law of Christ engage in a deep struggle against sin, even to the point of shedding blood. Yet, they do not condemn or criticize others for their failings. Instead, they share in the burden of sin with others in Christ, always mindful that they too are susceptible to falling into the same sins. They live with the awareness that without God's grace, they cannot sustain even a moment of true righteousness. This awareness fosters a life of humility and gentleness, wholly dependent on the Lord.
Those who hold a self-centered worldview often live lives disconnected from the “self-denial” that Jesus taught. They may achieve worldly success, accumulate wealth and power, and gain the respect of many. However, their lives are ultimately sorrowful, as they pursue things that will eventually perish with the body. On the other hand, those who recognize their own limitations and continually pray for the faith and courage to deny themselves, striving to adopt a Christ-centered worldview, may encounter discouragement and difficult situations in their service to God. Yet, they live lives of profound worth, reaping eternal life from the Holy Spirit.
No matter how righteous or commendable a person may appear, they cannot escape the penetrating gaze of God or deceive Him. We must remember that our true accountability is not to other humans, but to God, who created everything from nothing and who, in His love, sacrificed Jesus Christ on the cross for our redemption. The God whom we revere and love is both our "Creator" and our "Redeemer."
