Worldly people boast of their prosperity in the world. However, the believers boast of weakness and suffering. In 2 Corinthians 11:22 and below, Paul boasted of the difficulties of being imprisoned, beaten, and threatened with death, and in 2 Corinthians 11:30, he said, “If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.” For the people of the world, being successful means getting what they want in the world, but for believers, success means preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and growing into a person after the heart of God.
Today, it is easy for believers to have a distorted faith that is self-centered rather than God's kingdom and God's will because they care as much about success as the worldly people do. However, Paul lived a life of readily jumping into difficulties and crises for the Lord and boasted of the suffering and pain he suffered in the process. Jesus told his disciples to deny themselves and take up their cross and follow him (Mt10:38;16:24;Mk8:34;Lk14:27). The people the world is not worthy of, as written in Hebrews 11:38, indicate those who are confronted with hardships and difficulties for the glory of God. In general, religion focuses on the well-being of people in the world, but Christianity always keeps in mind the judgment of the afterlife as it pursues the kingdom of God. Thus Jesus proclaimed the gospel of the kingdom (Mt4:23;9:35;24:14), died on the cross for our salvation, and resurrected.
