The Christian view of history begins with the creation of God and flows toward the end of time set by God, that is, “the day of the Lord" or “that day” (Am5:18-20;Joel1:15-20;3:14-21;Zep3:9-20;Zec14:9-11). There is no one on earth or off this earth who can control or reject this time of God. Although the Messiah recorded in the Old Testament is described as a person of strong power like King David (Isa9:6-7;11:1-9;Jer23:5-8), a son of man (Da7:13-14), and a suffering servant (Isa53:1-12), there are also significant expressions wherein God himself is identified with the Messiah (Isa26:20-27:1;Joel3:14-21;Zec14:1-8;Mal3:1-6).
God, Jesus is that the Word became flesh, and he came to this world (Jn1:1-18) and fulfilled the prophecy of the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament, and at the same time, Jesus, who will return, will end the entire history, complete all the prophecies and bring an irreversible judgment. On the other hand, the present and the future of the kingdom of God, in other words, the relationship between the kingdom of God that has already come (Mt12:28-29;Lk17:20-21) and the kingdom of God that will come (Jn14:1-3) shows a tense relationship between the end which has already come in us (1Co10:1-13;1Pe1:13-25) and the end which will come (Rev20:11-21:27).
In light of this tension, the kingdom of God that will come at the end of time exceeds the concept of place and refers to the pure reign of God, which is directly linked to the faith and life of the saints who presently live in this world. Thus, we must truly believe in “Jesus” [Ἰησοῦς], the “Christ” [Χριστός], and rely absolutely and solely on Jesus (Jn14:6-10).
