Moses’ face shone when receiving God's commandments on Mount Sinai. Moses' face was so bright that people were unable to see it. The apostle Paul said that there was the glory of God even in the ministry of Moses receiving the commandments engraved on the stone but that glory faded and disappeared, and the ministry of Moses was “the ministry of death” (2Co3:7, ἡ διακονία τοῦ θανάτου “hē diakonia tou thanatou”) and “the ministry of condemnation” (2Co3:9, ἡ διακονία τῆς κατακρίσεως, “hē diakonia tēs katakriseōs”). However, the apostle Paul said the ministry of Paul proclaiming only the salvation of grace through Jesus Christ is “the ministry of the Spirit” (2Co3:8, ἡ διακονία τοῦ πνεύματος, “hē diakonia tou pneumatos”) and “the ministry of righteousness” (2Co3:9, ἡ διακονία τῆς δικαιοσύνης “hē diakonia tēs dikaiosynēs”) and the glory of God, which is revealed through the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching the gospel, will never fade or disappear, but will last forever.
The apostle Paul explained that even the glory that would come to an end was invisible to the Israelites because the face of Moses was covered with a veil, and the Israelites at the time of Moses were stubborn. Also, in the time of apostle Paul, Paul said they could not understand the real intention and truth of the gospel when reading the Old Testament because their hearts were covered with the veil which Moses would put upon his face. When reading the Old Testament, those who cannot see Jesus or who refuse to associate the Old Testament with Jesus’ crucifixion are not true believers in Jesus Christ. When reading the Old Testament, those who can see Jesus are under freedom (2Co3:17, ἐλευθερία “eleutheria”) in which they can recognize their worthlessness, accept Jesus as their Lord, and live for the glory of God only through complete self-denial in Christ, having their veils removed by the Spirit of Christ. Also, those who behold the glory of the Lord by having their veils taken away through the work of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, are gradually transformed into the glorious image of Jesus Christ. Thus, Jesus’ disciples have no choice but to preach the gospel humbly.
